'The 40 club': 20 + 20 = m.a.i. is 40

Greetings and Good Monday Morning! I've successfully made it around the sun once again, and hot damn, it's my 40th BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday, to self-published author, Charmyra E. Fleming

Today, I'm gladly entering a new phase of my life, "The 40 Club!" Over the last 10 years, I've accomplished so much, and when I think back to 2010, during that time I was going through quite a bit of hardships. At that time, I my mindset was focused on the negative, and me wishing I could do better. It wasn't until I decided to think differently about my situation and put action behind my faith, that my life began to positively align. I cannot believe that everything that I'd set out to do, I did, and then some! I did more than I expected! So, this year, I'm chill'n with my Mom at a resort, celebrating my time with her. This pandemic has shown me that we are fragile as human-beings, and our time is limited. I may be planning to make spaghetti for dinner tomorrow, and dead from COVID-19, instead. I know that's extreme, but that's why it's such an insidious and invasive virus. So, I've decided to give her and myself our flowers, and we can smell them together now. Last year, I wrote on my social media page, how I really have to be intentional and mindful about my time because, of my legacy. At that time, I felt that I had to get things done quickly and with a sense of urgency! There's so much that I want to do, so much that I want to accomplish before I close my eyes and rest for eternity. I still feel this way. I'm building a strong legacy to last long after I'm gone.

However, here's what I've done over the last 10 years:

  • Became a Mom and had my first child - 2013

  • Took Private Bellydance Lessons with my FAVORITE Bellydancer of all time, "Amar Gamal Garcia!"

  • Accomplished my goal and landed a role in Finance, as a Budget Analyst. - 2015

  • Began urban line dancing with the Boston Rhythm Riders - 2016

  • Promoted to Senior Budget Analyst & Supplier Diversity - 2016

  • Treated my writing as a business, and started Creative Calfuray as an LLC - 2018

  • Began "M.A.I. Pop Life" Blog - 2018

  • Self-Published my 1st romance novel, The Violet Rose - 2018

  • Held my first romance writing event - 2019

  • Completed my first MUA Program with The Academy of Makeup - 2019

  • Became an Estee Lauder Beauty Advisor - 2019

  • Selected to be an Exhibitor at the Baltimore Book Festival - 2019

  • Traveled cross country from West Palm Beach, FL to Los Angeles, CA with my bestie, Jennifer Griffin - 2019

  • Completed my second MUA Program with GLOW Makeup School - 2020

  • Held my first successful book launch at Pendry Baltimore - 2020

  • Self-Published my 2nd romance novel, Three's a Charm - 2020

  • Started The Purple Charm Experience Podcast - 2020

  • Trademarked my brand and company name - 2020

  • Celebrating my 12th year of marriage on 11/1/2020.

  • There's more to come...Book 3...and so much more!

In addition to my legacy, going forward, I'm still working to maintain relationships with people to whom my loyalty is important. It is in my nature to be loyal. Here's what I wrote a year ago, and it still holds true: "I always have been, and I expect it in return. I become guarded when I'm loyal to someone, and they betray me. I'll forgive, but I'll move differently in regards to you moving forward. I am so appreciative of the people that I've not spoken to in years, that still thinks enough of me to tell me, "Happy Birthday!" It was a testament to me of what I mean to them. I know that when it's their turn to celebrate, I'll be there full force to return the gesture! When you get older, I think you begin to seek to create an environment that makes it easy for you to thrive. You want the kind of energy around you that's positive, and anything less than that you don't have or make time for. I've learned many lessons over the years, as many others have, but the most important is to be protective of my loyalty. Everyone isn't deserving of that level of devotion from me, and now that I'm older, that's even more evident and I see it more clearly. When you're younger, you're more trusting, and it's easy to be loyal to folks that don't deserve it. I'm sad to say, I've definitely put my trust in friends and family for that matter, to whom I'd practically do anything for and was incredibly loyal, and they let me down, broke my heart, hurt my feelings, and left me hanging. People that value your presence in their space will never make an excuse to not be there for you. Those that you've genuinely connected with will always have your back whether you see them everyday or not. It will never feel like work to be in each other's lives."

When I was born, on October 26, 1980, I was born at 6:36 AM, on a Sunday morning. The sabbath day. I was 4 lbs when I was born, and I was a preemie. My mother was told that I may grow up having learning issues, and look at me now. I've had my share of challenges, but it's never deterred me from excelling to become EXCELLENT! It only empowered me to always, "show and prove" those wrong that underestimated me. My mother said, she always knew that I was a fighter, and that I was born fighting. She also told me that God had great things in store for my life, and that I was destined for greatness. I believe that growing up, I believe it now, and I believe that I still have much to do. I understand God's purpose for me and my life. Hence, my writing and always adhering to his plan. This week, I feel so blessed to share some really major life milestones with my mother. She turned 65, on October 20, and on October 25, she's celebrated 40 years of marriage to my father, Charles E. Graves. They are my example of #BlackLove because, they've been together a total of 50 years. If there's one message that I want to leave you with, it is to, ask God to reveal your purpose in life. Once he does, always look to fulfill that purpose with intention and full of passion. We all have special talents and gifts to share with the world, be open to sharing yours with the world. I'm enjoying the fruits of my labor and God's gifts to me, and this special time with my Mom. So, I leave you to day with good and positive vibes and wish you well!

Peace and Blessings,

MAI
