M.A.I. Monday Motivation: I've Got Mad love for Emily Dickinson's swagger!

Greetings and Good Morning Everyone!

I hope that your Monday morning is off to amazing beginnings. We are two weeks away from Thanksgiving, and I'm headed into week three of #NaNoWriMo. The past two weeks have been very challenging to say the least for me to find time to write. With that said, I've been motivated by finding things that keeps me inspired. This week, I want to share with you how AppleTV has gave me the push that I've needed to keep kicking, and give you a message that inspires you too! So, let's not waste anymore time; let's jump into today's message.

Now, I don't typically recommend watching television for inspiration, but I do love a great show. I will admit that I'm a sucker for binge watching a really good television series on the weekend. Especially, if I have nothing else going on. As outgoing and extrovert, I am, I also enjoy introvert things, like being at home, to myself, and watching my favorite shows. Okay, now that I've made that clear, over the course of two weekends, I've been completely smitten with AppleTV. I broke down and subscribed because, it is the only place where I can watch all of the Charlie Brown Holiday Specials. Now, if you didn't know, let me fill you in from my son's birthday until the New Year, this is my FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR, LOL! I simply love it! My birthday, my anniversary, cooking for Thanksgiving and Christmas ... all fall within this timeframe and it makes this time of the year super exciting (year over year)!

After I watched all of the Charlie Brown Specials, I began watching Swagger this series is based on the life of basketball player, Kevin Durant. It is so good! It has some heavy hitters, O'Shea Jackson, Jr. (better known as, Ice Cube's Son) and Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of a Southern Wild). I have to say, I was quite impressed with how good this show is, and it hooked me. I can't wait to watch the latest episodes! Some of the messages that I pick up from this show, is working hard and maintaining one's discipline. Also, the being unwilling to be "sold or bought". It's a great show for teenagers because, it lets them see stories that they can relate to.

The reason why I was so compelled to write this post today is because, I watched Dickinson. Now, like most, I've heard of Emily Dickinson and knew that she was a poet. However, I love the fresh way that this show is exposing a new generation of people to her and her writings. It's definitely a modern, contemporary take on her life set during the 17th Century. It has all of the drama, romance, and comedy that I need as a romance author with a sense of humor. Also, the music choices are "off the hook", and it even has Whiz Khalifa playing the role of "Death." It has a perfectly seamless blending of today's music and vernacular with what it was like living life in Amherst, MA during the 17th Century. I literally breezed through the episodes, and hearing bits and pieces of her poetry sprinkled and woven throughout the episodes, is intriguing and a beautiful tribute to her. She was an interestingly, complex individual with a brilliant mind. This show made me want to know so much more about her. It has also inspired me in some quirky way during this #NaNoWriMo season; if nothing else than to keep going, keep writing. She was prolific and she was very in tune with her thoughts and intentional with her words. She was confident, bodacious and adamantly aware of free flow in her writing. So much so, when she felt "blocked" she knew exactly where it came from. She's inspired me to aspire to be prolific in my writing, and to write through my blockages. She's also reminded me to be mindful of muse because, if they become the reason for a blockage you must be able to remove it to keep an open flow.

As I close, I want to encourage you work hard and maintain your discipline. Find your flow and use it to be prolific in whatever you do. I will continue to do the same. While you're at it check out these shows, and let me know what you think. I hope that you've enjoyed this week's blog post. If so, please feel free to like and share. May you have the best week ever!
