Greetings and Good Monday Morning Everyone,
It has been quite some time since I've shared a blog post. I hope all has been well. This summer has been a interesting one, and I for one would like to catch up a bit. Especially, since we're now heading into the autumn season. Time for apple picking, apple cider, and pumpkin patches. I cannot wait because, it is definitely my favorite time of the year. Before, I do, I'd like to reminisce briefly on September 11, 2001, as the 20th anniversary of this earth shattering day in American history just passed over the weekend.
My Remembrance of September 11, 2001
This past weekend of marked the 20th anniversary since Tuesday, September 11, 2001. I will never forget that day. I recall the day vividly, as if it were yesterday. It is interesting, over the weekend, I spent the entire day avoiding memories of that day. Not because, I was "over it", but because, it was, and still is very much a hurtful open wound of that time. Although, I did not lose anyone directly tied to that day, I as one of many Americans, watched in horror that day as my fellow brethen, American brothers and sisters, perrished in the collapse of the "Twin Towers". That is a scene that one would never forget. The impact affected us all, and I remember the days, months, and years to follow there was always a constant reminder that brought us back to that day. It wasn't and hasn't been easy to put back the pieces of our lives following that day, but we did. I will keep that day in my heart and I wanted to share my thoughts and remembrance of that day. We don't talk about it as much as we did in the first 5-10 years following, but the impact has been great and it is still very much a present memory in many of our minds; all of these years later. As I think about our withdrawal from Afghanistan earlier this month, and what the "war on terror" has done to our society, our thought process, and how we view terrorism at home and abroad; I will not forget the impact and how today we lack the basic compassion we had back then for one another. I will not dwell on that day, but I will leave you with the caption I shared on my Instagram page, Saturday, September 11, 2021. May it give you, a sense of connection in our solidarity, as Americans remembering such a dark moment in our history, today and always.
I still remember like it was yesterday, and what I was doing when it happened. I was sitting on my bed getting ready to go to class at NC A&T SU, and watching Bryant Gumbel on The Early Show. The level fear, horror, and uncertainty of what to expect that day and going forward changed how we lived since that day. I pray for the souls we lost that day, the many that lost their lives in the aftermath from countless illnesses and remnants of the impact of that day, and I pray for the families of the loved ones that lost their lives that day. I pray for those of us that watched helplessly as those towers came down, and cried for the lives we never knew. I think we all as a Americans lost a lot that day, but it was the first time that I saw us stand as a nation (with the world supporting us) in solidarity against a common threat to our livelihood and quality of life. It pains me to see how divisive we are today, but there is one day that I know that we stood together when we put all differences aside to band together and help one another through this moment. We need one another. I am my brother’s keeper. #Never4Get911
